Q&A - PADDY MCLAUGHLIN 19th July 2008

What has been your first impressions of Coleraine FC during your first half season?

I'm delighted with how things have gone and how well I've been treated by the Club and the supporters since my move in January to Coleraine

How do you feel you have settled into the squad?

I've settled in well which is down to the fact that we have a great bunch of lads in the changing rooms which isn't short of jokers! i.e. Darren Cassidy, Davy O'Hare and Matt 'Storky' Crossan.

How did you feel whenever you scored the opening goal in the Cup Final?

My goal in the final was a bit of a shock to me because I only seem to score in 5-a-side games! I didn't really think too much about it as I knew there was a long way to go and unfortunatley it proved to long for us to hold out to bring the cup back to Coleraine. But, hopefully coming so close last season means we can go one better this season!

How's pre-season going?

Pre-Season has been tough but all the boys have looked after themselves during the off season and have prepared well for the dreaded pre-season training.

What are your hopes, dreams and ambitions for the coming season?

I believe Coleraine are one of the biggest clubs in the Irish League so hopefully we can make the top 6 in the new League and go one better in the Irish Cup this season.

How do you feel the new gaffer has settled in?

Having already worked with Platty last season I know he's a top coach so I'm sure stepping in as the Manager won't be any bother to him. The players are all looking forward to his new set up at the club.

You regularly play beside two of Coleraines most promising prospects (Kyle McVey and Howard Beverland); how do you rate them and do you feel they have what it takes to move on to bigger and better things eventually?

Kyle and Howard have a bright future ahead of them, especially if they keep progressing in the way they have over the last year or two. They are both young lads that will hopefully have many years ahead of them with Coleraine before possibly stepping up to a higher level.

With Setanta Cup football looming next season, do you feel the team has what it takes to do Coleraine proud against LOI sides?

The Setanta Cup will be tough this year, although we have plenty of time to prepare as it wont be until next February - here's hoping we can get a North-West derby set up against Derry City!

Who is your most feared opposing player?

I don't fear any player - I only resepect them, but if I had to fear someone it would be Tussy (Johnny Watt) in training!

Who would you most like to see pulling on a Coleraine shirt?

It's been quiet in the transfer department but I'm sure Platty has a few irons in the fire we'll soon see a few new faces.

Before Darren Cassidy got injured last season, him and Carsie were creating havoc with their switching roles - do you think they will have the same effect this season?

Cass and Carsie are the best wide men in the League when they are on the top of their game, so I'm looking forward to the 2 boys terrorising defences this season.

And finally, who's been the best trainer so far into pre-season?

Everyone has been working hard in pre-season and doing extra sessions on their own, so it's hard to single anyone out for special praise on fitness at this stage.
