On Saturday May 3, 2003 Jody Tolan struck the only and winning goal of the 2003 Irish Cup Final, sending approximately 4000 Coleraine FC fans into raptures. In the midst of the celebrations one supporter came up with the notion of forming the Friends of Coleraine Football Club (FCFC). The original intention of this supporters’ group would be to persuade 1/10th of Coleraine FC’s 2003 Cup Final attendance to donate £10 per month to cover the general utility overheads and running costs of Coleraine Football Club financially. Although the target of 400 was not reached Raymond Kirk, John Mairs, Nevin Oliver and co succeeded in attracting many rank and file Coleraine FC supporters to contribute to the payment of utility bills incurred by the football club.

However, following the high profile financial difficulties that the club found itself in during 2005 and its subsequent fall into administration and threat of liquidation, FCFC put together a rescue package. On Wednesday August 9, 2006 this goal was achieved when Coleraine FC was formally taken out of the hands of the Administrator. With the further approval of the High Court, Coleraine Football Club was then purchased by the FCFC-owned Coleraine Football Club Limited, thus saving the club from bankruptcy and liquidation and securing senior football in the area.

FCFC now donates finances to aid meeting the running costs of Coleraine FC. The membership of FCFC, at their AGM, appoints a FCFC Committee to manage FCFC affairs and a Management Committee to run Coleraine Football Club on their behalf. The Management Committee is responsible in full for the day to day business of the football club and for formulating and developing goals, objectives and strategies of the business. Management Committee representatives report back to FCFC Committee members at monthly FCFC Committee meetings.
