JOHN NEILL

Who was your
boyhood hero?
I’m a big Liverpool fan so it was Robbie Fowler, he is ‘God’
after all.
What was your favourite subject at school?
To be honest I didn’t really like school when I was there - I couldn’t
wait until the bell went at 3.30pm to get out and play football!
What's the last thing you do at night?
I like to make sure everything is swithced off and locked up before I
head off to bed.
If you could
change places with one person for a day who would it be?
As I said before I’m a big Liverpool fan so it would have to be
Stevie Gerrard. To run out as Liverpool captain on derby day would be
amazing.
Favourite film?
It would have to be the Irish film ‘Man about Dog’ it’s
great craic.
What was the last book you read?
I have to be honest I’m not really into books.
If you could
change one thing about yourself what would it be?
People tell me I’m too easy going so I’d probably change that.
Do you enjoy pre-season training?
Yeah, it’s always good to meet up with the lads again after the
summer break and there’s always plenty of good banter even during
all the tough training.
Who hogs the mirror in the
changing room?
Kyle’s (McVey) the main man - he’s got all the gel out and
the aftershave, it’s hard to get him shifted sometimes!
Who is the worst trainer?
He’ll probably kill me but I’ll have to say big ‘Gacky’
(Paul Gaston) can be brutal. He’s been here the longest but I think
he owns the yellow jersey now
Most memorable moment?
Without a doubt the Boxing Day game last year. We totally dominated the
match but nearly threw it away and to grab the winner like that was unbelievable,
you could see how much it meant to everyone.
Best player you’ve played
with?
Johnny McIvor - he had so much skill.
Who has been the biggest influence
on your career?
My family, they are always there for you no matter what, through the good
times and the bad and they keep you going when things go wrong.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Hopefully I’ll still be at the Showgrounds but you never know in football, as someone once said ‘It’s a funny old game’
